Art & Craft Pink Lake

Step behind the display and into the making space on a guided tour of the Cindy Poole Glass Artist gallery and studio. See the design process, tools and skills that go into kiln-fired glass art, and gain a closer look at the thinking behind the work.

Along the way:

• Hear how Cindy, a former PE teacher, founded her studio in 1995, and the techniques and design thinking that define her work.

• Discover the inspiration, design concepts and making behind the Esperance Whale Tail, the foreshore sculpture and exhibition work.

• Find out whether the glass Polka Dot Bikini and Glass Mermaid Leather dress are wearable.

• See how familiar glass, like a wine bottle, is reworked in the kiln into something new, with its origin still part of the story.

“Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be beautiful or believe to be useful.” William Morris

“I work with glass because it holds light the way memory holds feeling—subtle, shifting, and never quite the same twice.”

“Each piece begins with a material that already carries a story. My job is to discover what it can become—something refined, made to last, and worthy of a place in someone’s life.”

Cindy Poole, Glass Artist

Step behind the display and into the making space, then take part in the process yourself. The Discover and Create Experience is a hands-on workshop at the Cindy Poole Glass Artist studio, where you leave with a piece shaped by your own hands using some of the methods refined over three decades.
Gain a closer look at kiln-forming and how it has shaped the Cindy Poole Glass Artist story. Learn how glass is transformed through heat, layering and design intention, and how working with fine art glass differs from working with ReValued glass, which is drawn from familiar bottles and vessels.
At the end of the workshop you will have made something decorative and functional to take home, a memorable piece from your visit to Esperance.
Then return to the gallery exhibition and retail space and browse at leisure with a light refreshment, seeing the work with new insight.
