World's Oldest Brewery Tour: Weihenstephan from 1040 A.D.

Weihenstephan Private Brewery Experience

Weihenstephan is not only the world’s oldest operating brewery, but it hosts one of the most modern and largest scientific brewing universities in the world. Together with the Technical University of Munich, thousands of Brewmasters train here from all over the world. The tour includes a 1 hour beer tasting with history and explanation and tour with an on-site qualified guide for 1 hour at the modern-day brewery. You will learn how beer developed here almost a millennium ago by Benedictine Monks, eventually becoming a Royal Bavarian State Brewery and now officially a publicly-owned enterprise of the Free State of Bavaria that upholds the strictest of quality standards and the Bavarian Purity Laws of 1516 (Reinheitsgebot). After the tour, we will stay at the brewery restaurant for a delicious lunch. You will leave the site with a small gift from us and a smile on your face. Depending on your wishes and timing, we can also walk you to the fascinating old town of Freising to see the magnificent Cathedral and stop at a cafe or beer hall before returning back to Munich.
Tours of Weihenstephan brewery can only be conducted on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday throughout the year. On every other day a tour is possible to Freising, the Weihenstephan Brewery area, shop and restaurant, but a tour of the actual brewery is unavailable. We can offer this in combination with a brewery tour in Munich. Contact us for further details.
Tour starts at €400 for up to 2 people for a Private Tour that lasts 7 hours. Extra Adult participant cost €100/each.
This includes:

Escorted travel and tickets to and from the Brewery
2 Hour Brewery tour with semi-professional tasting session by a brewmaster student
Lunch at the brewery restaurant
Visit to the gift shop and gardens
Small walking tour and visit to the old town of Freising with a final stop for refreshments before heading back to Munich
This is an excursion to the world’s oldest brewery and the medieval town of Freising that you won’t forget!

Weltenburg Monastery Brewery 1050 A.D.

Join us and Travel Through 1000 Years of History
at the Abbey Brewery of Weltenburg.

Just an hour and a half from Munich is the home of the Weltenburg monks who brew amazing beer. This brewery is set in the most peaceful and beautiful setting along the the cliffs and canyons of the Danube river.
We will start by making our way north of Munich with a private vehicle and driver. We will first wind our way through the largest hops area in the world of Hallertau. In the summer we will visit a lookout over a valley of hops fields. Our next stop is the small town of Kelheim, the home of Schneider Weisse's famous Hefeweizen beers, to catch a ferry to Weltenburg. The ferry up the Danube river might just be your favorite part of the trip, as the river winds through beautiful cliffs and hills. We will have a great Bavarian lunch in the Biergarten or Stüberl as well as sample the fruits of the monks' labor: Weltenburger Asam Bock, Urtyp Hell, the Anno 1050 Kellerbier, and other seasonal specialties. With some free time you can hike up to the top of the cliffs or visit the Weltenburg Chapel that was consecrated in 1191.
The Abbey was founded in the year 617 and three years later in 620, the monastery was founded. It is recognized as the oldest monastery in Bavaria, with residents living here for almost 1,500 years. Weltenburg Abbey brewery ( Weltenburger Klosterbrauerei ) is by some reckonings the oldest monastic brewery in the world, having been in operation since 1050 A.D. (although the title is disputed by the former Weihenstephan Abbey that began brewing in 1040 A.D.).

After our visit to Weltenburg and a short ferry ride back to Kelheim, we make our way to the Schneider Weissbier brewery, just a short walk into the center of Kelheim's quaint old town. The Schneider Weissbier brewery saved Hefeweiss beer from extinction when they purchased the right to brew it in 1872 from the Königlich Weisses Hofbräuhaus in Munich. They still use that same recipe for the Original (Tap7) beer today. We will enjoy sampling some of their 10 different beers (and sometimes more depending on the season), followed by dinner. Our adventure ends with our journey home.
Prices start at €650 for a private tour for up to 2 people. Each additional Adult costs €130/extra.
