ARCHIVED Cattle Muster
This package will run 2nd January 2024 - 7th January 2024
A fully catered, fun-filled adventure exploring Blue Mountain Station and learning about cattle mustering. This is a great opportunity for experienced riders to get hands on involvement with a real cattle muster. We provide horses that know the terrain and the task in hand and guide you throughout the experience. Expect a true taste of life on a high country station!
The adventure begins at the Blue Mountain Station Cook Shop which you and your guides will ride from over the coming days. We will explore the Station, while rounding up the 500 + Angus cows and calves for ear marking. This is an excellent chance to see what we do in the hills while forming lifetime memories, truly the ultimate high-country adventure. Be a part of real working station!!
PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS A WEIGHT LIMIT OF 100KG FOR CATTLE MUSTER PARTICIPANTS - this is to ensure the welfare of our horses.
DAY 1: Welcome to the Blue Mountain Station! On your first night you will enjoy dinner in the Cook Shop as we get to know each other and chat about the plan for the upcoming muster. Take this evening as a chance to freshen up, you won't see a shower for a few days! It's a bath in the creek or nothing.
DAY 2: Today we ride - this will be your first day in the saddle as we leave the farm and head out on the trail alongside the Orari River toward the Basin Creek Hut where your first night out on the Station will be spent. This historical hut has a long history of hosting weary shepherds as they rest after their own mustering missions. The horses will graze around the hut as you enjoy some fire-side star-gazing.
DAY 3: From the Basin Creek Hut we will ride our horses further out to another of the Station's historical huts. Today we will talk more in depth about mustering as we get closer to the starting point as we gather up the last few stragglers for the big muster the following day.
DAY 4: BIG MUSTER PART 1 - Hopefully feeling fresh from your sleep at the hut, we will rise and shine. This is where your horse riding and stock skills will be put to the test as we start to muster the cattle off the hill and towards the home cattle yards. We need sharp riders today, cattle mustering is an operation that requires communication and a good team spirit! We will be taking the cattle to the halfway point to the home yards. Expect to be pretty knackered by the time we ride back to the Cook Shop for a good feed and sleep.
DAY 5: BIG MUSTER PART 2 - Today, we will ride out very early to get back behind the mob. This is the final cattle push towards the farm. We will be taking the cattle through the heart of the station to the main yards for ear marking. This will be a big push following by yard work.
The muster may vary due to weather or our farming operation.
