Looe Key Snorkel Trip — Standard & Guided Options, All Gear Included
Looe Key Snorkel Trip — Two Reefs, All Gear Included, No Experience Needed
Some places earn their reputation. Looe Key National Marine Sanctuary is consistently ranked the #1 snorkeling destination in North America and #10 in the world — and one afternoon in the water here will tell you exactly why. After 7,000 years of coral growth, this reef is home to over 150 species of fish and more than 50 coral species, including staghorn, elkhorn, star, brain, and fire corals rising from the sandy bottom in formations that have no equal anywhere on the continental United States.
Sea turtles glide through the water. Nurse sharks cruise the sandy bottom. Eagle rays sweep past in silence. Barracuda hold position in the current. This is not a snorkel trip — this is an encounter with one of the most biodiverse reef systems on the planet.
Choose the experience that's right for you: explore the reef at your own pace on our Standard Snorkel Trip, or upgrade to the Guided Snorkel Experience. Same boat. Same gear. Same two reef sites. The difference is what you see — and how much you take home with you.
Guided Snorkel Experience — $99/person (minimum 2 snorkelers)
Your certified guide is in the water with you — not watching from the boat, but right there beside you, leading the way through the reef, pointing out marine life, identifying coral formations, and showing you what most snorkelers swim directly over without ever noticing.
Your guide will show you:
- Reef fish by name — angelfish, parrotfish, yellowtail, sergeant majors, barracuda, and dozens more
- Sea turtles, nurse sharks, and eagle rays — where they live and how to approach safely
- 50+ coral species — staghorn, elkhorn, brain, star, and fire corals explained in context
- The hidden stuff — camouflaged creatures and reef secrets most visitors never find
Also includes a pre-water orientation — fin technique, mask clearing, breathing rhythm, and how to move through the reef without disturbing it. Whether it's your first time or your fiftieth, this preparation makes a real difference.
Perfect for first-timers, families with kids, underwater photographers, and anyone who has snorkeled before and felt like they missed something.
Standard Snorkel Trip — $54/person
Everything you need for a great day on the reef — explore freely at your own pace with full gear included and our experienced crew on board.
Two Reef Locations. Four Hours on the Water.
Every trip visits two different Looe Key sites, with one hour at each location to explore. Our captains select the sites each day based on real-time conditions — wind, visibility, and sea state — ensuring you're always at the best spot the reef has to offer. Please note that conditions occasionally restrict us to one site.
Divers and Snorkelers? Everyone Rides Together.
If your group is a mix of divers and snorkelers, we can accommodate everyone on the same boat — no splitting up, no separate trips. Families stay together. Our two dive boats are specifically designed for mixed groups, giving us the flexibility to meet almost any combination of participants.
Everything You Need Is Already on the Boat.
Your mask, snorkel, fins, and inflatable snorkel vest are all included — no rental fees, no gear to pack. Just show up in your bathing suit and we'll take care of the rest.
Right from Our Dock in Big Pine Key.
With convenient parking and easy check-in, you board our boats right behind our dive shop on the property. It's a short ride out to Looe Key — and then you're in the water.
What Snorkelers Are Saying
"We did a snorkel trip out to Looe Reef and this was a highlight of my trip. I saw incredible fish, coral, and eels. We visited two spots with divers and the crew was super friendly, the boat wasn't overly full and the captain gave great tips on where to snorkel. I loved the whole vibe and can't recommend this outfit enough." — Mona A., Google Review ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
"My husband and I had a great experience snorkeling out to Looe Key with Captain Hook's crew. The staff were wonderful along with the ride to the reef. We even had dolphins following us back. The reef was huge and abundant with color and sea life. My husband saw sharks and I saw a stingray along with all kinds of fish. We are so happy we opted to do this!" — Lisa C., Google Review ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
